Art Museum Visit

Charles E Burchfield (1893-1967)
His artworks made the biggest impression on me, mainly because his pieces of artwork are so original. You can tell he really took his time when creating his pieces. I like looking at modern art work. I did not exist around the time he was alive so looking at his artwork gave me a feel of how his time period was.

One of Charles E Burchfields pieces of artwork that I found interesting was his "Tracing of two Ravines,1943. " I found this tracing interesting one because it demonstrates what we have learned so far in class. The elements of arts lines, value and space. This tracing looks like its a lot to look at but once you've stood there for a while you start to visualize what he is trying to depict in the tracing.

My second interesting piece of artwork from Charles E Burchfield is his watercolor on paper called "Wild sweet Peas in a summer Rain, 1965." This painting was interesting to me because the contrast of color moving through the picture. I like how the flowers stand out against everything else in the picture.

Charles E Burchfield artworks would be pieces of art that I would like to know more about. It's just something about his paintings and drawings that make me wonder about the time period he lived in. I get vintage vibes from his artwork.

I also found it pretty cool that they recreated his art studio within the art museum.

One two art pieces that I fell connected to was the the motion tree right before you walk into the the art exhibits and the global warming art exhibit.

The motion tree, digital video created by Katia Maciel called " Uma Arvone One Tree,2009." I felt like I had a connection to that piece because it showed movement. Even though the tree itself is standing still the leaves are moving like the wind is blowing. It was a silent clip but, I felt like I could visualize being right in front of that tree. This clip is something you could stare at for five minutes and not get bored looking at it.
The other piece of artwork that I felt I had a connection with was the global warming artwork. This piece was created by Buffalo North Polar context/plastic it is titled "Gult,2019." This piece stuck out to me because it is a representation of our polar caps. Due to global warming our polar caps have been increasingly melting. The concept I got from this piece was that if we continue to pollute the earth we won't have an earth in the next couple of years.
Chet Harmon La More ( 1908- 1980) "Figures in Abstract, 1956" oil on canvas. I liked this piece of artwork and want to learn more about it. This painting also has the elements and principles of art that we have discussed in our course. Lines, shapes, color, texture, etc. I liked looking at the piece because the way the painter disfigured the representation of people was interesting. The way the painter made the colors pop out. You can see the brush strokes on the canvas, I liked that also.

The last two pieced of artwork that I also enjoyed looking at were apart of the A focus on Wood exhibit. The first piece is by Wendle Castle " Spooning Chairs, 2002" made of maple and Jeutlong. I find this piece very interesting because it is all made of wood. It took me 10 minutes to realize the pillow was made of wood. To be able to have such craftsmanship to create such a piece is astonishing. This artist is very talented and skilled.
The last piece from the exhibit that I found quite interesting was a piece by John Mcqueen called "The four food Groups,2006" made of sticks, strings, bundle ties, and hot glue. The first thing I thought when looking at the artwork was is "man this must have took up a lot of time." The work of art was very detailed you can tell the creator but a lot of thought into this piece.

  1. Hi Tatyana! I think the piece "Figures in Abstract 1956" is interesting. I like how you mentioned that you can see the brush strokes it adds to the organic outcome the painting has. I went to the Andy Warhol museum so it was interesting looking at different people's art museum experiences. The piece "Gult, 2019" is a very important piece because litter and pollution have a large impact on the Earth. The polar ice caps dwindling is largely important to the lives of polar bears and other arctic life. In the piece "Spooning Chairs 2002" the fact that the pillow is made of wood is so hard to believe, it looks so realistic and even the texture is on point. I can't image how long that must have took.

  2. Hello again! Liddy here. I read your article on your visit and I'm happy to say we chose the same museum and a shared artwork! While I wrote about the installation as a whole, you focused in on an amazing detail: "Guilt," (2019). I was struck by not only this sculpture's imagery but also the use of plastic pieces beneath the melting icecaps. And the title is just SO appropriate. It was nice to see your take on it, and I'm glad to see someone else cares about the Earth.
